Drone Emergency Landing during Demonstration in Osakikamijima-cho

On the 3rd of February 2021, A.L.I. Technologies Inc. (hereinafter referred to as the Company) participated in a drone logistics flight demonstration experiment held in Hiroshima Prefecture, where they were forced to perform an emergency landing.
The Company would like to express their sincere apologies to the Mayor of Osakikamijima-cho, the residents of Osakikamijima-cho, and other companies who participated in the demonstration test, for the great concern and inconvenience caused.
The company recognizes the importance and urgency of analyzing the cause of the emergency landing, formulating measures to prevent reoccurrence, and submitting to the appropriate authorities, and would like to also extend their apologies for any delay in the publication of this information.

(1) Date and Location: 3/Feb/2021, Hiroshima pref., Osakikamijima-cho, Toyota District, Hiroshima Prefecture.
(2) Damages: No casualties, No property damages.
(3) Summary: During a drone logistics demonstration experiment held in Osakikamijima-cho, Toyota District, Hiroshima Prefecture, the failsafe emergency landing function was triggered twice during the drone’s automatic navigation, resulting in a sudden loss of altitude and emergency landing. The first time the failsafe function was triggered was thought to be due to a physical shock at sea. The second triggering of the fail-safe function was due to a human error by our operator in setting the values for the flight. The crash site was in the vicinity of a high voltage power line, but the results of an investigation by an external organization did not indicate any evidence of contact.
(4) Reoccurrence Prevention Measures: Drone operators will be required to undergo regular training, and the functions of the drone will also be enhanced to reduce risk of reoccurrence.
