■Background & Purpose

During the period of rapid economic growth in the 1970s, Japan’s social capital stock reached an all-time high. It is feared that the infrastructure built in this period will deteriorate rapidly in the coming 20 years. The amount of infrastructure that is reaching 50 years since installation is increasing at an alarming rate, and against a background of labor shortages, more efficient maintenance methods and infrastructure renewal is vital.

Under these circumstances, JIW has been developing drone solution services for public infrastructure such as bridges, slopes, and electric wires, and has achieved capital and business alliances with major large companies.
Meanwhile, A.L.I. has been promoting the social implementation of drones by providing drone solution services to industries such as surveying, agriculture, and railways, forging capital and business alliances with major companies, and through in-house developed technologies and air mobility patents including digital identification control systems.

The two companies have decided to enter into a partnership in order to promote the social implementation of drone solutions for infrastructure inspection and management on a national scale, by utilizing the skill, know-how, and technologies of each company.

■Partnership content and future policy

As a partner in public infrastructure inspection, JIW and A.L.I. will combine drone solutions and promote the following efforts.
・ Solve the problem of infrastructure management in a time of labor shortage
・ Contribute to ensuring that the infrastructure maintenance and update process is undertaken using the safest methods possible
・ Development of on-site inspection rules and training systems in each industry
・ Increase the visibility of drones in all industries.

We are convinced that the system flow with the know-how and intellectual property rights accumulated through these efforts we have made in the actual field will make a social contribution to the national licensing, registration and management system for drones promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in Japan.

Additionally, by aligning industry regulation through drone races and competitions hosted by A.L.I. last year in collaboration with FAI (International Aeronautic Federation) and the JAA (Japan Aeronautic Association), and combining JIW’s expertise in the infrastructure industries, we also aim to establish a gold standard for the industry.

A.L.I. will continue to strive for excellence, and to activate the drone industry in Japan.
